Description

The SANS 58.8V 5A charger is the correct charger for 52V lithium e-bike battery packs — the voltage most 52V systems actually charge to when full, not the “52V” printed on the battery. We keep these on hand in our Sydney workshop for exactly that reason: getting the charger voltage right matters more than most riders realise.

Key Features

  • 58.8V DC / 5A output, sized for 52V (14S) lithium e-bike battery packs
  • Universal 100-240V AC input — works on standard Australian power points, no adapter needed
  • CE-marked, with the standard electrical safety warnings printed on the unit (no user-serviceable parts inside)
  • 3-pin output connector — confirm this matches your battery’s socket before ordering
  • Compact, portable case suited to home charging or workshop use

Perfect For

  • Riders replacing a lost, damaged or failed 52V charger
  • Keeping a spare charger at home or at work so you’re never caught flat
  • Owners of 52V (14S) lithium e-bike and cargo bike batteries
  • Anyone unsure whether their current charger is actually the right voltage for their battery

Why 52V Batteries Charge to 58.8V

A “52V” lithium e-bike battery is built from 14 cells wired in series, and each of those cells reaches a maximum safe charge of 4.2V. Do the maths — 14 × 4.2V — and you get 58.8V, which is the actual voltage the battery sits at once it’s genuinely full. “52V” is just the pack’s nominal (average riding) voltage, not its charge target, which is why the charger needs to output 58.8V rather than 52V.

This matters because a charger that doesn’t match your battery’s real full-charge voltage can cause problems either way: an undersized charger (for example, a 54.6V unit meant for 48V packs) won’t fully charge a 52V battery and will leave you short on range, while an oversized charger risks pushing the pack’s battery management system into overvoltage protection or generating excess heat. Getting this number right is a genuine safety matter, not just a technicality.

Compatibility

This charger suits e-bikes and cargo bikes running a 52V (14S) lithium battery system with a matching 3-pin connector, including the Vinxs electric bike range we sell and service. It is not interchangeable with 48V (13S) systems, which charge to 54.6V and need our separate SANS 54.6V 5A charger instead.

Because connector shapes vary between brands and even between battery revisions, we always recommend checking your battery’s existing charger or connector before ordering — send us a photo and we’ll confirm the fit.

Charging Recommendations

Charge on a hard, non-flammable surface indoors, away from direct sun and rain, and avoid leaving any lithium battery on charge unattended for extended periods — standard practice for any lithium charging setup, not specific to this unit. Let the charger cool between back-to-back charges if you’re charging multiple batteries in a workshop setting, and stop use immediately if the case, cable or connector shows any sign of damage.

Workshop Tips

If your bike came with a 52V battery but you’ve lost track of which charger belongs to it, don’t guess by the plug shape alone — two chargers can share a similar-looking connector while outputting completely different voltages. The voltage is always printed on the charger’s label; check it against your battery’s spec before plugging in. If you’re at all unsure, bring both in and we’ll check them for you.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will this charge my 48V battery?

No — a 48V pack charges to 54.6V, not 58.8V. Using this charger on a 48V battery risks overcharging it. Use our 54.6V 5A charger instead.

How do I know if my battery is 52V?

Check the label on your battery or your bike’s spec sheet. If you’re not sure, send us a photo of the battery label or your current charger and we’ll confirm before you order.

Does this work on Australian power points?

Yes — the input is a universal 100-240V AC, 50-60Hz, so it works on standard Australian mains power with no adapter needed.

Can I use this charger unattended overnight?

We’d recommend against leaving any lithium battery charger running unattended for long periods, as a general safety practice — charge in a supervised, well-ventilated space where possible.
